The Simolin House is part of the layered history of Porvoo. In the 19th century, it became the home of the merchant Leonard Simolin, who was known not only for his business ventures but also for the way he encountered people. He believed in the power of sharing and community at a time when it was more a way of life than a trend.

Leonard’s legacy — the idea that shared moments and actions are more valuable than individual achievements — still lingers within the walls and windows of the house. It is also the foundation of what Leonard & Co. represents today.

The Simolin House has, for decades, marked the gateway to Old Porvoo — a place where those passing by step into the city as if entering a new world. Over the years, the building has served many purposes, from a department store to commercial premises, witnessing the city’s growth, change and the many phases of its life.

Its iconic windows and architecture carry stories from the past, while at the same time looking naturally toward the future. When the new Leonard & Co. was created, our aim was to honour the house’s heritage and build around it a modern, vibrant whole — one that fits seamlessly into the heart of Old Porvoo.
